Netflix wants to release 55 more video games by the end of the year. Cloud games could also be a reality

Netflix released its financial results for the last quarter, showing profits of nearly $1.4 billion and an increase of 2.4 million subscribers. It was an important recovery, after having previously registered a drop, for the first time in recent years, in subscribers. The results were accompanied by news that the streaming platform has scheduled for the near future.

Video games remain one of the company's main reinforcement plans. Previously, he had already pointed out the increase in productions, predicting a launch between 25-50 titles. Now he highlights that he has 55 new productions in the works, which will join his current catalog of around 35 games for smartphones. In September, Netflix even announced the creation of an in-house production studio, so it wouldn't just rely on games produced by other companies.

Netflix has now taken over to its shareholders plans to dive into the gaming market, sticking to the proposals available for iOS and Android smartphones. This strategy aims to increase user retention rates, signs that have already started to emerge, according to the company in its report. “We have reached the first anniversary since the launch of the games. And as we've already mentioned, this is a multi-year journey to learn how to satisfy players. The first year was focused on establishing our gaming infrastructure and understanding how the community interacts with games.”

The company claims to have 35 games on the service, included in Netflix subscription plans, with no advertising or additional in-app purchases. “We are seeing encouraging signs that the gameplay is generating greater retention. And for that, it is strengthening its catalog with 55 productions, including more games based on Netflix IPs. "We are focused for the next few years on creating successful games to take our initiative to the next level." Keep in mind that at their last estimate, games still only accounted for 1% of their user base.
