Messi declares his favorites for the Cup: "Brazil and France"

Lionel Messi, current PSG player, gave an interview to "DirecTV Sports" and expressed his feelings about the start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where Argentina will try to play a good role to obtain its third world title.

However, the Rosário star surprised everyone, did not put "Albiceleste" as a candidate to win the World Cup and admitted that, for him, "Brazil and France" are the favorites to win the tournament.

"Currently, the candidates are the great selections. We are talking about Germany, Brazil, France, England and Spain. If I had to stick with two, Brazil and France are the great candidates for this Cup", said Messi, in dialogue with Pablo Giralt.

In the same vein, he praised the French national team: "France, in addition to being eliminated in the last Eurocup, has impressive players, like Kylian (Mbappé). He has a very clear idea and the same coach".

"A World Cup is very difficult. Many things must happen. There are many teams that want the same as us and if we are doing well, there are many that are better. For us Argentines it is difficult to be calm. We are always the best, always we are candidates and, many times, that is not what happened", said "La Pulga".

Lastly, Messi praised the work of coach Lionel Scaloni, who took over the national team after the 2018 Russian Cup and won the 2021 Copa America: "It was a fundamental piece for this group to be what it is now".
